Posidonia 2022

The President, Ms. Melina Travlos and the Μembers of the BoD of the Union of Greek Shipowners, met today at its premises, with Mr Robert Courts MP, Undersecretary of State at the Department for Transport of the United Kingdom, responsible for the maritime sector. The meeting was also attended by the UK Ambassador to Greece Mr Matthew Lodge.

Reaffirming the historical ties of the Greek shipping community with the United Kingdom, both sides reiterated their commitment to continue their close cooperation, especially in light of the global discussions on the energy transition of shipping.

The President, Ms. Melina Travlos and the Μembers of the BoD of the Union of Greek Shipowners had a meeting with the delegation of the Turkish shipping industry at its premises, on the occasion of the Posidonia 2022 international shipping exhibition.

During the meeting with representatives of the Turkish Chamber of Shipping, Turkish Shipowners’ Association, Association of Turkish Coaster Owners & Operators, issues of common interest and the challenges faced by the shipping industry.

The President, Ms. Melina Travlos and the Members of the BoD of the UGS held a meeting with the Chairman, Mr. Paul Jennings and the CEO, Mr. Nick Shaw of the International Group (IG) of P&I Clubs, the mutual insurance organisations, at the UGS’s premises.

During the meeting, the key input of the IG on institutional issues relating to marine insurance was highlighted during the discussion, as well as recent geopolitical developments that have raised security concers for the shipping industry.

The President, Ms. Melina Travlos and the Μembers of the BoD of the UGS, received today at the Union's offices, the Maltese Minister for Transport, Infrastructure and Capital Projects, Dr. Aaron Farrugia, who supervises the largest ship registry in the European Union.

The President of MISA, Ms. Marily Fragkista attended also the meeting.

The regulatory developments in the European Union, especially those pertaining to the “Fit for 55” package was the main topic of the discussion with both sides reaffirming their like-minded approach on the need to promote the decarbonization of the sector, while ensuring the competitiveness of European shipping.

The President, Ms. Melina Travlos and the Μembers of the BoD of the UGS, received today at the Union's offices, the Chairman of INTERTANKO, the International Association of Independent Tanker Owners, Mr. Paolo D' Amico, together with senior officials of the association.

With a quarter of the world’s oil tanker fleet belonging to Greek shipowners, the President of UGS thanked the representatives of INTERTANKO for their contribution to promoting the proposals of the international shipping industry to the IMO, especially in relation to environmental issues.

The President, Ms. Melina Travlos and the Μembers of the BoD of the UGS, received today at the Union's offices, the President of the Cyprus Shipping Chamber, Mr. Themis Papadopoulos and the Immediate Past President and currently President of ECSA, Mr Philippos Philis.

Both sides highlighted their excellent cooperation on matters regarding EU legislative initiatives for the shipping sector and confirmed their willingness to further enhance bilateral relations.
